Mission statement
All aspects of my work as a translator are guided by the following principles:
A good translation
has to reflect the source text.
The exact rendering of the contents of the source text, the linguistic accuracy of the target text and the correct
choice of register are essential requirements which have to be satisfied as a matter of course.
Over and above these criteria, however, the translation has to reflect the mood of the original text and
communicate its atmosphere. In other words, the translation has to strike the right note.
The translation should be a pleasure to read.
The reader should find the contents of the text presented in the style of language he expects. He should feel at
ease when reading the translation and not stumble over unusual terms and expressions.
The translation should read like an original text which has been written in the target language by a
professional in the subject area concerned.
The quality has to be right.
In addition to an excellent command of the language, a good translator also has to acquire the necessary background
knowledge of the different subject areas. A good combination of linguistic skills and factual knowledge are crucial
for the quality of a translation.
Accordingly, I translate only texts in those subject areas of which I have the required knowledge and sufficient experience.
